Dear GMB Member
GMB Scotland NHS Pay Ballot Result Following the close of our consultative ballot on the NHS Pay Offer for 2023/24 and after meetings with your workplace representatives this morning (Thursday 16 March) we can confirm the following result:- Accept 59.7 per cent
- Reject 40.3 per cent
Three-fifths of members who returned their ballots have voted to accept this offer, but we also realise this result is far from a ringing endorsement of the Scottish Government’s pay policy either.Final AFC 1 year pay deal 202324 16 February 2023.pdfFinal Heads of Agreement 16 Feb 2023 Karen Leonard GMB Scotland Organiser
Whether you voted to accept or reject, we want to be clear these historically higher pay offers are a direct consequence of more trade union members across the NHS and SAS organising themselves to achieve statutory strike mandates. Make no mistake, the threat of strike action has pushed the government to improve their offer. The unconsolidated extra ‘3 months backpay’ was a direct result of your willingness and ability to take industrial action, your position secured this as part of the offer for the whole workforce. We want to be clear with you the increases consolidated for 2022/23 and 2023/24 will only be a high-water mark for NHS pay and conditions if we allow it to be. It is so important that we keep campaigning and organising to make our union bigger and stronger across health boards and services. It is the process of industrial relations that builds the union and makes work better for the people we represent. With the approval of your workplace representatives, we will now formally notify the Scottish Government of GMB’s ballot result and the majority decision to accept. Again, the information below sets out what this now means for your pay and conditions moving forward:Posted: 16th March 2023
